GR34 hike

GR34 from our portal: 3 coastal walks starting from Portsall

Imagine setting off on a hike straight from the gate of the gîte , with your feet already on the legendary GR34 customs trail . No need for a car or complicated preparation: put on your shoes, breathe in the salty air, and let yourself be guided by the coastline. Here are 3 walks accessible to all , starting from Portsall, to discover the wild beauty of the Pays d'Iroise.

1. Short walk (45 minutes): Pointe du Guilliguy

  • Duration : approximately 45 min round trip
  • Difficulty : easy
  • Highlights : Portsall Harbour, sheltered coves, panoramic views of the cove

Leaving the gîte, turn right onto the GR34. The trail quickly runs alongside the small port of Portsall, charming with its colorful boats. Continue to Pointe du Guilliguy : a rocky outcrop offering a superb view of Portsall Cove. On a clear day, you can already see the lighthouses that line the Iroise. A perfect loop for a warm-up or a family outing.

2. Medium walk (2 hours): Pointe de Penzer

  • Duration : approximately 2 hours
  • Difficulty : moderate (some rocky passages)
  • Highlights : cliffs, wild beaches, biodiversity

From the gîte, follow the GR34 west. You first cross areas of dunes and moors, before passing several small secret beaches . Keep your eyes peeled: here, gulls, terns and sometimes even seals come to enjoy the calm waters. After about an hour, you reach the Pointe de Penzer , with its cliffs beaten by the waves and its breathtaking view of the Iroise Sea. The return is by the same path, or by small country roads to vary the landscapes.

3. Long walk (1/2 day): towards the Dom Michel Chapel

  • Duration : 3 to 4 hours (depending on breaks)
  • Difficulty : intermediate
  • Highlights : Isolated chapel, high tides, iconic seascapes

For more motivated walkers, continue further along the GR34 towards the northeast. The trail takes you along the jagged coastline, between dunes, beaches and rocks sculpted by the tides. After about 7 km, you reach the Chapelle Dom Michel , perched facing the ocean. It is a magnificent place of meditation, where the sound of the waves accompanies your steps. The place is particularly spectacular during high tides. Bring a picnic to savor the panorama before heading back.

Practical advice for your walks

  • Shoes : A pair of comfortable sneakers is enough for the first two walks; prefer hiking shoes for the long outing.
  • Tides : Check the tide clock at Portsall Harbour. Some coves are only accessible at low tide.
  • Equipment : windbreaker recommended, even in summer, and always a bottle of water.
  • Respect for nature : stay on marked trails, do not pick plants, and take your waste home.
